    Welcome Emma

There is a new member of the Fabric Spark team! Emma B has joined us to help fill orders, get the shop ready, make up new bundles and keep us laughing and energized. Emma is a recent grad from Queens, loves fabric, sewing, and (as evidenced above) public art.  She is a joyful and thoughtful person and I couldn't be happier to have her on board. Emma will look after everything at fabric lovers HQ here, while I'm taking a short summer break.  You're in excellent hands.

For all of the wordsmiths and text fans out there.

We've just made text prints easier to find. There's now a separate tab under "themes" for fabrics that are dominated by text. It could be newsprint, typewriter, handwritten, or headlines...but it's all in one place and easier to search so either click on the
by theme" link in the navigation bar at the top of the page under fabric, or click on the "choose a theme" link right on the home page and you'll find the Text Prints option.

    Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall

    Goodbye...

Hi all, thanks for following our Summer of Fabric Love. It was fun and challenging to come up with new activities and launches each week and I'm sad that it's over...but...on we go into Fall. There are fantastic new collections coming to the shop (and some have already arrived). Watch for new beautiful Japanese imports, stunning new collections from all of your favourite designers, and a few new substrates coming to the shop for the garment sewers.  The start of school is always my real New Year, and I'm delighted to see what's in store for Fabric Spark, and the whole fantastic sewing community.

    Cheers!

    A hand-made life

I have a customer named Ruth who just sent me photos of a number of different sewing projects she's finished with some of her Fabric Spark purchases.  I have to say, I was blown away.

She has beautiful new and bags to show for her summer of creative endeavour.  Both patterns are Anna Graham, made special and unique by Ruth.

She also has three new additions to her closet, the middle one is from "Simple Modern Sewing by Shufu To Seikatu Sha" but the outer two are Ruth's own designs and patterns.

Apart from being impressed with her breadth of sewing talents and productive output, I just love seeing this example of creative time well spent.  What's better than something you made yourself.  To have an idea and turn it into a reality, and to know every time you use it, that you made it happen. It's a special kind of accomplishment. It reminds you that you're a creative, unique and self styled soul.

Last week I spent an afternoon with a friend sewing enough pillows to give every room in her house a lift (including the room that will nest her newest, not yet arrived, little baby). She hadn't sewn since Junior High so it was fun watching her rediscover what it feels like to make something yourself. I love the delicious arc from inspiration, to design, to problem solving, and finally to the thing itself (even with the little flaws and quirks that only you can see).

This is the appeal of a home made life. It's the satisfying journey from spark to made, and the repeated satisfaction, every time you use it, that you made it so.

    Creativ Festival

Thanks to everyone (and there were lots of you), who helped get the booth ready for Creativ Festival.  It was exhausting but lots of fun, and no one lost a toe or their temper - that's what I call success. I'd also like to thank Sherri of Thread Riding Hood.  Her patterns and kits were a hit and it was fun putting everything together with her.

Thanks as well to all the excellent folks who stopped by to look, chat, shop, and share their creative inspiration.  It was really fun getting to meet everyone and hearing about their projects.  I loved seeing what people like and respond too. It was a nice break from my home workshop.

I will see you next spring at Creativ Festival - and hopefully before that at a few other shows around town.

    Cheers!

    Daryl

    New Toy

I'm like a kid. My self inking stamp just arrived and it totally made my day.  This is one of those little tools that gives me great pleasure.  I can turn a plain white card into stationary, I can turn a brown paper bag into packaging.  I think I need to get out more.
