The right pattern with the right fabric

Sherri of Thread Riding Hood made a perfect travelling day dress out of the striking African Palm Indigo fabric and the April Rhodes Staple Dress pattern. She chose for colour, drape and density of pattern and it all came together beautifully.

Sherri made the pattern her own by modifying the pattern to create a new hemline that adds to the easy going elegance of her look. If you're not confident revising patterns (I am definitely not!), check out her blog for a clear and easy to follow tutorial and creating this shirt tale effect.  It takes the dress in another direction.

    Fresh Lemons Patterns and Kits

Introducing three new quilt patterns and two coordinated quilt kits curated by Faith Jones of Fresh Lemons.
When Faith announced that she was creating paper patterns for some of her original quilt designs I thought this was an excellent opportunity to have her curate a kit.  I think Faith is a master at bringing together pattern and colour and I know by reading the comments on her blog that I am in good company.  She knows when to use prints, how to use scale, and when to be a little bold.  She uses whites and neutrals in a way that make the colours work better without being overwhelming. I was a little nervous asking her if she would do it and, nice sewist that she is, she immediately said sure!  Here they are, and check out the paper patterns available on their own here.

    Talented and fast

My friend's neice Lizz came to see me in my booth at Creativ Festival two weekends ago.  She bought a great stash of fabric mixing Foxfield by Tula Pink and the always beautiful Stof Uno grey raindrops.  (Clever girl to put them together).  A couple of days later she sent me these pictures.

    Baby Quilt Done

I finally had time to sit and put this baby quilt together.  Just finished.  I'm really happy with the binding, I love a striped edge. Have done up a few kits for the Creativ Festival next weekend.
