Harmony is here, and Carolyn Gavin is coming

We're excited to announce that we're going to have a creative evening with Carolyn Gavin on October 5 at 6:00 PM in the shop at 1992 Danforth Ave.

Carolyn is a Toronto artist and illustrator whom I've been following for years. She started Ecojot with her brother and their journals and planners, all with covers illustrated by Carolyn, are environmentally sustainable, a pleasure to use and gorgeous. I've been writing in them since they first came out about 20 years ago, and we have a great collection in the store.

Please join us for an evening with Carolyn and hear about her creative process, see some of her art, the wonderful fabric collection and the Ecojot journals. We'll have some terrific prizes too! Let us know if you're planning to attend.

    Busy October

Well first we had the Creativ Festival. That was a lot of fun (and  work!).  I loved seeing everyone who came by and talked fabric  and projects with my sisters and I. We had a great three days, and  we were very happy to be taking a lot less home than we brought  so thank you very much!

Then, I headed to Houston for Quilt Market. It was a kooky weekend. We had torrents of rain, I actually felt a current on the sidewalk the water was so deep. I also had a banging head cold so felt a little bashful about chatting with designers and distributors. I had a delayed departure getting down there so I missed a couple of the "Schoolhouse" designer presentations that I'd hoped to attend, but apart from all of that, it was an inspiring and fun weekend.

The highlights for me were the Japanese fabrics, there are some terrific goodies making there way here.  I also loved the new Bluebird collection from Cotton + Steel, and together with Alison Glass' Handcrafted Indigo, the world is turning bluer.  Lots of beautiful blues in many collections. I also loved the new Carkai from Carolyn Friedlander, the Ombres from V and Co and a few sparky collections from Cloud 9.I'm back now, and not going anywhere for a few weeks so I can catch up with the rest of my life, put my house back in order, and start thinking about making something (so many ideas, so little time).

    Oh yeah, and Halloween!

    Happy October!!

    2015 Summer of Fabric Love

Hey there, I'm excited to launch the 2015 Summer of Fabric Love at Fabric Spark.

You may wonder, what is the Summer of Fabric Love and why now in 2015?

It was an idea I had percolating away in the back of my mind all winter. I have lots of plans for the shop this summer and I wanted to bundle everything into a story for you. We share is enthusiasm for fabric and making things and for most of us, fabric is a very happy place we can go to for inspiration.

It's's also a good reflection of my mood these days. I'm pretty excited about everything I saw at Quilt Market and really happy about all of the patterns and fabric coming our way. In addition to the new fabric, I also have a couple of surprises planned so jump on board and check back every week to see what's going on at the Summer of Fabric Love headquarters. Also, be sure to sign up for the newsletter or check the facebook feed or Instagram feed for updates, new fabric news, promotions, and lots of other fun stuff.

    Share the love...

Back from Market to lots of new fabric

After a whirlwind trip to Minneapolis where the fabric world converged for International Quilt Market, I am inspired and excited.
I saw my friends Leanne from She Can Quilt, whose beautiful quilt is on the cover of Canadian Quilter magazine this month, I met with Krista of the fun Poppyprint blog, she has a new book out (coming soon to Fabric Spark) called Make it Take it. I also met up with a few other fabric store friends who swapped advice, learning and funny experiences with me. And, I met some great new bloggers and industry watchers who are a good source of information, news and great insights.

But, the main event is always the fabric. I saw
