I don't remember Tartan looking like this.  The funky tartan Lula Hoop is a fun and easy pattern for someone without a lot of experience. It uses a stocking stitch and tartan technique and is 13 cm x 160 cm.

The pattern calls for

4 x Balls of Crazy Sexy Wool (200 grams per ball) (2 balls in main colour and 1 in each of the accent colours). You can also add an extra ball of Crazy Sexy Wool if you would like to knit this scarf in the four colour option.  Note - if you have some good sized bits from old projects use them for your contrasting colours and just get 2 balls for your main colour.
