Motif Mati Handwoven Cotton - Recycled Vintage Sari Ribbon - Shakti

We are so excited to introduce a new line of fabrics at Fabric Spark, introducing Motif. This company is a source of ethically hand-made textiles in Bangladesh. The fibre content is either recycled or from natural sources and the wovens are all hand loomed by local artisans. 

Recycled vintage saris are torn into ribbons and hand stitched into soft 100% cotton fabric by hand. This design is called Shakti – which in Bangla means strength. The stitching is done by young women and girls rescued from brothels by Shapla Mohila Sangstha, a local NGO who provide shelter and paid work to the girls.

Note - because this is hand woven, there will be the odd irregularity (kind of like my garment sewing) If you need perfection, you may want mechanically milled yardage. 

Spark -This is a special, unique textile but note, it's a narrow width so you will likely have to modify pattern layouts.  Make a gorgeous tunic, top or a unique jacket. Or, just sew up a one of a kind throw pillow, 

Please note that all fabric is sold in 1/2 yard increments. If you want 1 yard, please order a quantity of 2. If you want 2 yards, you will need to order a quantity of 4.
