How can the act of drawing be translated to quilting? In this workshop, Andrea will show you her modern bias tape machine appliqué technique from the Trellis quilt in her book, Quilting: A Modern Creative Journey through an Age-Old Craft. You will use one of her flora designs, but also try your own block design. This fun and rewarding technique will open up your mind to new ideas about appliqué.

Difficulty - you have sewing and quilting experience but want to learn a new technique

Supply List - You will get a detailed email a couple weeks ahead of the class but in the meantime, assume you will need to bring your sewing kit (thread, fabric snips, etc.)

In order to make 4 x 9 1/2" square blocks in the class, you will need

  • just over 1/4 yard of fabric (light or white solid fabric)
  • 1/4 yard of interfacing (Andrea recommends Pelon 950)
  • a reel of bias tape - we include one black reel in your workshop fee, and there will be more available to buy from the shop
  • twin needles - 3mm (we will provide one for you to use during the workshop)
  • 2 spools of black thread (one for each needle)

Note - we are capping the class at 6 participants. If we have less than 2 participants, we will cancel the class and refund your full purchase price. Otherwise, workshops are non-refundable. If you cancel with at least a week's notice, we will give you a store credit. If you find you can't make it, with less than one week's notice, you are welcome to send someone in your place.
