Learn how to change the way a pattern fits, how to properly select a pattern size, how to amend a pattern so that you get the fit you want before you start sewing your next garment. 

This online class will be part lecture, part demonstration and part workshop. Students will use quarter-scale blocks (that will be printed at home on cardstock paper), and they will learn a range of fit exercises and then repeat the exercise using their own 1/4 scale blocks. 

Subjects included are

Choosing the correct size

Discussion on what is a good fit/ how to analyze your garment for a good fit

Understanding Ease (wearing ease vs. design ease - how to assess if a garment has enough or too much)

Grading between sizes

Grading beyond the pattern

Wrinkle Dictionary (wrinkles point to the problem)

Sequence of fit

An explanation of alteration concepts

Demonstrations of the most common fit alterations, with a focus on the upper body.


Details

Who should take this class - You have access to a laptop or ipad, a printer, and ambition to sew better fitting garments.

Please note that this isn't a class to learn to sew garments, for this workshop, you should already know how to follow a garment pattern, have sewn  clothing, and understand basic garment sewing terminology.

Timing - There will be three 2-hour classes taking place over three weeks

What's included - 

  • We will send you a digital file that you will print at home for the exercises
  • You will also get a digital workbook to keep, written by Kristiann included in the workshop.

Please plan to have - You will get a detailed email 2 or 3 weeks in advance of the class but please plan on having the following ready for the class.

Supplies;
  • Prior to class, print out the file of blocks we will send to you in advance
  • Awl, or push pin
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Meausreing tape
  • Paper - several sheets
  • Scotch tape (magic tape - matte, not glossy, so that it can be written on)
  • Ruler (preferably gridded drafting ruler)
  • Tracing paper
  • Paper scissors
  • Optional (pointed tracing wheel
     A binder or a duotang is optional for storing your class work

NOTE -  Workshops are non-refundable. If you cancel with at least a week's notice, we will give you a store credit. If you find you can't make it, with less than one week's notice, you are welcome to send someone in your place. If we have less than 3 participants, we will cancel the class and refund your full purchase price.
