Kantha cloth is a very old technique that originated in Bangladesh and West Bengal and made use of sarees and other garments that were no longer wearable. It was handmade and passed from generation to generation. ("Kontha" is a Sanskrit word meaning rags)

Valori Wells, a well travelled fabric designer, created this collection first developing block prints (using her own hand carved printing blocks), then the fabrics were hand-screen printed in India, and finally cut and pieced together and hand-stitched by skilled Kantha sewists from small villages in an area of India versed in this textile tradition. Note - Free Spirit Fabrics has assured that they are fair wage artisans.

DISCLAIMER: This is a handmade product so please expect minor imperfections.

Spark - There is a cute (free) pattern for the carry all pictured at the end left, but I would also consider just finishing the cut ends and using it, whole cloth, as a throw on the back of a sofa or the end of your bed. Or, make a Kantha jacket

Please note that all fabric is sold in 1/2 yard increments. If you want 1 yard, please order a quantity of 2. If you want 2 yards, you will need to order a quantity of 4.

For example

1 = 1/2 yard 2 = 1 yard 3 = 1 1/2 yards 4 = 2 yards
