Intro to Block Printing on Fabric - Sunday May 6 11:00 - 4:00

In this workshops, you'll learn the basics of carving an image onto printing blocks, how to use them to print on fabric, some basic surface design principles and how to mix ink colours to expand your palette. 

Over the course of the day you can expect to carve two simple blocks, and to print them each several times. We will provide 4 pieces of fabric to each student, but you're encouraged to bring your own fabric for printing.

Supply List - You'll get a detailed email with a list of what to bring, but here is some helpful information. The class includes a block printing starter kit.  Each kit includes one tube of black fabric ink for you to keep, cutting tools, a block that can be used whole or divided into smaller blocks and an ink roller. We will also provide several other colours to use during the workshop. If you're keen, we will have inks available for purchase to take home, in addition to extra tools and supplies.

We encourage you to bring more things to print on. You can use linen, cotton, blends, and clothing! It's fun to print on stripes, checks and other patterns to create new designs  with the blocks you've carved, so don't shy away from that. 

We also suggest that everyone bring an apron, or art shirt that can get dirty. We will have latex gloves for students if they choose to wear them. 

Note - we are capping the class at 8 participants. If we have less than 3 participants, we will cancel the class and refund your full purchase price. Otherwise, workshops are non-refundable. If you cancel with at least a week's notice, we will give you a store credit. If you find you can't make it, with less than one week's notice, you are welcome to send someone in your place.
