Sewing School is designed to give you increasing levels of sewing know-how. Each class adds new techniques to enhance your skills and give you more confidence. Whether you are a complete beginner, or a skilled quilter who wants to get into garment sewing, the Sewing School classes will help you understand the steps, read and interpret pattern instructions, and give you the tools and confidence to start problem solving on your own. At the end you'll be ready to take on more complex and demanding sewing projects.

Take one or all of the classes. We have each of them on both weekdays or weekends to accommodate your schedule. They're also available for anyone 14 or older so if you have a teen at home who is keen to learn, this is a great opportunity.

Details - Woven Tee - Learn to make Top #1 from 100 Acts of Sewing (pattern included in workshop fee). This is a soon-to-be wardrobe staple that you can wear as a layering piece or on it's own. Choose a fun cotton print, or make it a little sturdier with Essex or Artisan cotton (like our sample). You will learn

  • pattern sizing and layout
  • grainline
  • bias binding
  • seam finishes (3 techniques)
  • top stitching
  • hemming

The workshop fee includes the pattern and 100 yard spool of Mettler Metrosene thread. Fabric is extra.

Difficulty - You know how to thread a sewing machine, and adjust tension or you've taken Sewing School #1.

Supply List - For this workshop, thread and pattern are included in the workshop fee. You will be sent a detailed list of supplies to bring to the class a few weeks ahead of your workshop.

Your Yardage requirements:

XS-L: 1 1/2 yards (1.4 m); XL-4X: 1 3/4 yards (1.6 m); 5X: 2 yards (1.8 m)

If desired, additional 1/2 yd (0.5m) or fat quarter of contrast fabric for bias tape. Optional notion: 3/4" (18mm) bias tape maker

Note - we are capping the class at 6 participants. If we have less than 3 participants, we will cancel the class and refund your full purchase price. Otherwise, workshops are non-refundable. If you cancel with at least a week's notice, we will give you a store credit. If you find you can't make it, with less than one week's notice, you are welcome to send someone in your place or forfeit the workshop fee. 

Students must be at least 14 years old.
