Lazy Punk Quilt Class

Lazy Punk is based on a pattern that was published in the Kansas City Star (KCS) in 1938. The name of the original block is Airship Propeller. It has lots of curved piecing but this version involves no curved piecing. It is a fast, fun and easy method of making fun blocks from scraps. It's amazing how all of your scraps and stash fabrics work together so dig into your pile of scraps and bring them along. You can also cut 4 1⁄2” strips of fabric and then trade with others in the class.

The workshop will include template options, template preparation, fabric selection, rapid fire cutting techniques, basting methods and block construction. A variety of design options for creating a wall hanging or a full size quilt will also be discussed.

The blocks can be made by hand or by machine. It’s your choice. The sample quilt top employs both construction methods so why not try both. If you are coming with a friend the two of you could share one machine!

Basic Supplies
  • Fabric safe marking tools (e.g. chalk markers, mechanical pencils - available in the shop)

  • Sandpaper board (optional)

  • Template plastic (optional and available in the shop)

  • 8 x 10” square of cereal box type cardboard

How many blocks will you make? It depends on how quickly you work. I suggest that you bring at least six background squares. If you plan on making the entire quilt then bring more. If you have extras you can always trade with other students.
